Why certain 'diet' foods won't do your diet any good

Whether you're trying to trim fat, increase your calcium in-take, find a breakfast both healthy and filling  or a snack with a reasonable amount of calories, diet foods and foods which claim to be healthy are every where with the promise they help you reach one of your goals.

But are they really helping you or simply making things worse - Oprah Magazine recently shared some valuable information about the worst diet foods for your diet.

Foods with bragging rights

If food had a personality, these would be the ones pounding their chest with pride - according to Prevention Magazine.

If you could help prevent disease, improve the quality of someone's life and give them a healthy glow, you'd be bragging too.

What's happening under all that pretty polish

Admittedly, today's post might be more appreciated by our female clients than our male clients. So the question for you ladies is how healthy are your nails?

If, like most of us, they've been hiding under shiny summer colors the last several months it might be time to give the nail polish a rest and check out the health of your nail.

Prevention magazine writers and editors probably get their mani/pedi's on a regular basis too, but they're pointing out some important signs to watch for in a recent article.

Hit the road with healthy travel snacks

Hitting the road this month for some summer travel? Well we think you're bound to hear this phrase a lot. That and "I'm hungry."

So when we came across an article in Oprah Magazine about some of the best healthy travel snacks, we figured it was only right to share them. Just don't forget the napkins.

Taste it Tuesday: One word may make all the difference

With all the advice, suggestions, ideas and professional expertise out there, it'd be hard to imagine just one word could change your ability to lead a healthier, cleaner life when it comes to eating.

And while some of these suggestions may be obvious, a few probably are not.

Do you need a gym to get in shape and reach your fitness goals?

No, you don't.

You might be surprised we'd say this. But, we live in one of the best places to exercise. And rarely is the excuse of weather at play.
There are hundreds of options out there. You shouldn't join a gym because you think there's no other way to stay active.

Whether it's running stairs (or climbing them slowly), hiking, swimming, paddle boarding, or biking you can do any of it without a monthly fee. The great outdoors does not offer memberships.
That being said, just having a membership does not a workout make. You have to truly commitment to taking advantage of what is offered at the gym you join.

With all the advice out there these days - whether in the form of Facebook posts, articles in magazines, DVDs and more - you can create a workout anywhere. A really intense, calorie-burning workout. And it's so important to be aware of these choices. Because even if do you belong to a gym, you still might need to know how to grab a workout if, say, you're traveling or away from home for other reasons.

All the options out there are really good ones. Sometimes though, it's not something to do or equipment we're lacking. It's the motivation.
It's this reason, and what we work so hard to accomplish for our clients, that we're happy to be here for those looking for a place to workout. Not that we're a gym.

As one of our beloved instructors often says "you come to class to do what you would otherwise choose not to do on your own"

You definitely shouldn't join a fitness studio - even ours - because it sounds good. Or just because your friends are doing it (though a workout buddy is always a bonus.) You must commitment to daily activity, challenging your body and wanting a healthier lifestyle for yourself.
And your health deserves to be taken seriously.

If you are doing some research on the gyms out there, do your homework. Find a place you'll feel comfortable, where you will learn something new each time you exercise. And if you get that membership, do more than simply show up. Challenge yourself, engage in conversation with your instructors to get the most out of your time spent sweating.

That's why we love our clients. It's why we work so hard to create a comfortable environment where all fitness levels are welcome and you're going to be challenged.

Re-thinking your goals

One of our clients came by this morning to have 30 day measurements taken. They bounded in the room, easily removed their shoes and practically floated to the scale. Of course, we wish everyone was so excited to come in for measurements and to see the progress they've made over the last month. But unfortunately, despite real effort from most of you, there tends to be trepidation and fear. And though we often see a grin appear once we're through, there are times when disappointment appears instead.

Sometimes, re-focusing your goals (and not avoiding the reality of your progress, or lack thereof) is the way to create space for success. Shape Magazine recently shared some information about this very subject. Sometimes, setting a goal not related to numbers can make all the difference in achieving a positive change.

There's a lot of BA out there

Tips. Tricks. Gimmicks. Ideas. Solutions. Advice. You've heard it, sought it, tried it, and maybe even succeeded with some of it. But apparently there are a bunch of ideas floating around out there you'd be better off ignoring.

Prevention Magazine has complied the 25 worst diet tips ever.
Apparently there's a lot of BA out there.
Bad advice, that is.

When sugar isn't so sweet

We're not sure the idea of giving up sugar - added sugar that is - is entirely a good idea. After all, depriving yourself totally often leads to other issues. But a recent article shared by Prevention Magazine does suggest there's entirely too much of it in our diets, and explains some sobering reasons to consider  (or re-consider as it may be) your sweet tooth cravings.

4. Bring a water bottle to class. We are eco-friendly at Dynamic You Fitness. And our filtered water tastes better in a re-usable water bottle. Really.
