We have a hunch this could be her mantra. With a kind heart and a smile that lights up a room, your first impression might be 'this is a lovely person.' She absolutely is. But take one of her fitness classes, and you might be thinking something else entirely. You should be thinking 'thank you!' every single time.
In her own words, here's how Dynamic You Fitness instructor Donna got her start as a trainer, why this profession is one for life and where she draws inspiration
After I graduated from college in 1980, I accepted a great position in the human resources department of a major engineering company. I sat at a desk for eight hours a day, smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and eating poorly. It wasn't long before I began to develop 'secretary spread.' I took my first aerobics class in 1981, and my thought was 'I can do this. I can teach classes, and I can do it better!' So, I never went back.
In 1983 my father died of heart disease. I was 25 years old and devastated. I decided to get serious about fitness, gave up my great job and took a position at a fitness center. I started at the front desk, and then began teaching a dance aerobics/slimnastics class. I loved it. I had to move in with my mother who needed support after my father passed away, and quickly found another studio 'Woman's World.'
They provided a four-week program to train us how to become an aerobics instructor. In 1985 I became certified with IDEA, and just continued my fitness career from there.
Through the years I have seen so many fitness trends come and go. Unfortunately, a lot of people my age who have been in this business as long as I have are now injured and unable to teach. I have every intention of teaching until it's my time to go. Yes. You just might see me teaching boot camp at age 97!
