A salty situation



Salt is a tricky thing. We actually need it in our diets to survive, and our bodies don't produce it naturally. It's essential to our health because our cells need it to function. But too much salt and you're asking for trouble.


So how much is too much? More than just 1/2 a teaspoon per day, according to the American Heart Association and government guidelines. We told you it was tricky.

The Huff Post 50 has written an article highlighting some of the foods containing hidden salt. Some of the foods they mention aren't all that surprising...but you might be surprised by just how much more salt is in them than you'd think.

The biggest culprit - no surprise - processed foods. Men's Health Magazine addresses several things related to Salt Facts, chief among them - why processed foods are packed with so much salt.

We totally get it - it seems like every time you turn around there's something else you're not supposed to have. But be aware of the sodium levels in your foods and you'll likely find you feel better (lighter, less bloated) in a very short period of time.
